Delivering Real Results!
Practicing Fiscal Responsibility
As Broward County’s Mayor, Josephus Eggelletion Jr. led the fight to reduce spending and streamline operations. He initiated a zero-based budget that had public input. As a result, Broward County adopted a budget with a decrease in the millage rate of 14 percent - the largest reduction the County’s history. Commissioner Eggelletion will continue to lead the charge to make County government fiscally responsible.
Creating Jobs
Focusing on international trade and tourism, Commissioner Eggelletion helped created 1,500 new jobs and keep more than 2,500 existing jobs. He will continue to make sure the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Port Everglades and tourism provide good-paying job opportunities for a better quality of life.
Improving Public Transportation
Last year, Commissioner Eggelletion broke ground for the new Northeast Transit Center in Pompano Beach. He also approved innovative transportation programs that benefit the homeless and Paratransit customers. This year he is working hard to implement a master transit plan with citizen input. Commissioner Eggelletion will continue to work hard to make public transportation convenient and affordable for every citizen.
Helping Minority Businesses
Commissioner Eggelletion has always championed the effort to secure governmental contracts for minority businesses. From 2005 - 2007, the county awarded $475 million of its contracts to certified minority subcontractors. For federal contracts, more than $79 million was awarded during the same period. Commissioner Eggelletion will continue to fight for minority businesses, so they get a fair shot at governmental contracts.
Increasing Affordable Housing
Commissioner Eggelletion spearheaded the drive to make home ownership a reality for many of our residents with the County’s new home ownership program at affordable terms. As a strong advocate of this program, he continues to secure funding for affordable housing in our neighborhoods.
Funding Parks and Open Space
Commissioner Eggelletion has fought to build and renovate our parks and open space. More than 30 projects have been completed, including six major park projects. Last year, he dedicated the 100-acre Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill, which completed with more than 50 percent minority participation. Commissioner Eggelletion will continue to fund our parks and open space for future generations.
